The number of contract workers, people who are self-employed, temporary and “on-call” workers, and those who tap online apps for “gig” work rose in 2021 to a record 51 million people—a 34 percent increase from 2020. And this trend is expected to continue. How are corporations addressing this surge? What are the constraints that challenge businesses from tapping these talent pools? What are companies doing to effectively leverage this opportunity?

This three-hour, virtual program will be moderated by Rebecca Ray, Executive Vice President of Human Capital at The Conference Board. Speakers will include Camille Olson, Partner, Seyfarth Shaw LLP; Hollie Heikkinen, CEO & President, iWorker; as well as CHROs, policymakers, legislators, employment law litigators, and independent workers.

This CHRO Roundtable will include discussions in five areas:

  • The Evolving Profile of the American Worker: What does the American worker look like today and how can we expect the workforce to change?
  • A Brief History of Employment in the United States: What is the history of employment and how did the US end up with a void of laws and regulations around the independent workforce? What are the top challenges companies are facing regarding this group?
  • Voices of the Independent Worker: What are the motivations for and challenges of being an independent worker? How can this way of working be improved?
  • CHRO Viewpoint: The Corporate Approach to the Independent Workforce: How are CHROs successfully engaging with the independent workforce?
  • Proposals for A New Path Forward: What could a federal agenda look like to support reskilling, education, and portable benefits access?

Join us on April 18, from 2- 5 PM ET for this engaging discussion.
